888sport (888sport Ireland for punters here) is the sports betting arm of the 888 brand, now part of the group that also owns William Hill, and this review covers what the Irish Revenue Commissioners’ register, 888sport’s own site, its app store listing and the UK Gambling Commission’s public records actually show — licence status, regulatory history, product scope, payments and customer feedback — rather than repeating marketing claims. Punter Ireland has no affiliate or commercial relationship with 888sport at the time of writing; nothing here implies a bonus, deal or partnership.

Pros
  • Confirmed on the Irish Revenue Commissioners’ register of licensed remote bookmakers (licence 1010120, 888 (Ireland) Limited, trading name 888SPORT.COM)
  • Focused sports product with in-play betting, Cash Out, Bet Builder and Watch & Bet streaming for UK and Irish racecourses, according to its app store listing
  • A well-rated iOS app (4.5 out of 5 from about 19,000 ratings on the UK App Store page) and a long-established brand
  • A welcome offer headline of a 100% match bonus up to €100 is shown on its homepage, in euro
Cons
  • A heavy UK regulatory history: a £9.4 million penalty in March 2022, an earlier £7.8 million penalty in 2017 and three smaller penalties in 2024 and 2025, all disclosed below
  • Very poor Trustpilot feedback (1.1 out of 5 from more than 2,500 reviews, mostly about account restrictions and withdrawals), which we cannot verify case by case but which is a clear warning sign
  • We could not find a GRAI reference in an Irish-specific footer, and the homepage we could read is written for UK customers, so euro payment limits, processing times and offer terms for Irish accounts are not independently confirmed

Licensing: what 888sport’s Irish licence actually covers

The Irish Revenue Commissioners’ register of licensed remote bookmakers, which we read directly (the version we checked is dated 30 June 2026, and we checked it on 3 October 2026), lists licence reference 1010120 for 888 (Ireland) Limited, with the trading name “888SPORT.COM”. The licensee’s address is a business centre in Sliema, Malta. The same register lists William Hill Malta PLC (licence 1016824) at the same Sliema address, with the same two named nominees, which is consistent with the two brands now sitting in one corporate group.

The Gambling Regulatory Authority of Ireland (GRAI) also publishes notices of intent to apply for a licence. One of them, for a company called “888 Eire Limited”, was published in the Irish Daily Mail on 9 April 2026 and lists the licence type as remote betting. That is a different company name from the one on the Revenue register, and we have not been able to confirm how the two relate, so we simply note it. We could not verify a GRAI licence number for 888sport, and unlike some other operators we review, we could not find an Irish footer on 888sport.com stating one. The homepage we were able to read refers to the UK Gambling Commission and the Malta Gaming Authority rather than to an Irish regulator.

This is a sports betting licence. It does not cover casino games, and Irish casino (gaming) licences are not yet available — GRAI is expected to open gaming licence applications through 2027 and 2028. The 888 name is also widely known for casino and poker, but treat any casino access for Irish customers as not covered by this licence until Irish gaming licensing opens.

Regulatory history you should know about

888sport’s UK business is run by 888 UK Limited, which the UK Gambling Commission lists under account number 39028. This is a separate legal entity from the Irish licence holder, so none of what follows is a finding by an Irish regulator. We include it because it is the same brand, because it concerns how customers are treated, and because we disclose adverse history on every review rather than omit it. This is the most significant adverse record of any operator we have reviewed so far.

  • March 2022: a £9.4 million financial penalty, plus an official warning and an independently audited improvement programme, for social responsibility and anti-money laundering failings. The Commission said 888 had delayed financial checks until customers had deposited £40,000, failed to interact properly with a customer who lost £37,000 over six weeks during the Covid lockdown, set deposit caps that did not match customers’ income, and accepted verbal assurances about employment instead of documents. It was the second penalty for the company, after £7.8 million in 2017 for failing vulnerable customers, and the regulator warned that licence revocation was possible if the failings recurred.
  • August 2024: a £23,000 penalty for breaching the licence condition on credit card use. The company identified the breach itself and cooperated with the Commission.
  • August 2025: a £33,075 penalty for failing to take all reasonable steps to prevent customers holding multiple accounts across group brands, a customer identification requirement. The breach was self-reported with remedial action.
  • November 2025: an £86,843 penalty for a breach of the self-exclusion rules, which the Commission put down to human error rather than a systemic control failure; self-excluded customers remained protected from access.

Separately, the Commission opened a review of the parent company’s UK licence in 2023 after an investment fund built a stake in the group. That review concluded in March 2024 without any licence conditions, penalties or other remedies. The parent, formerly 888 Holdings, rebranded as evoke plc in 2024 and also owns William Hill, whose own 2023 UK fine is covered in our William Hill review.

The 2022 failings are serious, and they are exactly the areas where you should rely on your own controls: set deposit limits yourself, and do not assume the operator will step in. The more recent penalties are much smaller and mostly self-reported, which points to better internal detection, but they show compliance slips are still occurring. We found no published action by an Irish regulator at the time of writing.

888sport Ireland: sports and betting markets

The 888sport homepage lists football, horse racing, rugby, cricket, boxing, darts, tennis and golf, plus volleyball, greyhounds and specials such as elections and awards shows. The app listing mentions football, horse racing, NFL, NBA and Formula 1, and describes a focused product that does not try to cover every minor event. Reviewers elsewhere single out American football, golf and basketball as strengths, which suits punters who follow US sport or golf more than GAA. We did not find confirmed Gaelic games or Irish-specific markets listed, so check the sports menu on your account if those matter to you. For festival weeks, see our guides to Cheltenham, the Grand National and Punchestown, which explain markets and each-way terms in any bookmaker.

The 888sport app

The app is listed on the App Store as “888sport Live Sports Betting”, published by 888 UK Limited, free, rated 18+ and requiring iOS 15 or later. Its listing describes in-play betting with live market updates, Cash Out, Bet Builder for custom multiples, Watch & Bet streaming for UK and Irish racecourses, a BetFeed showing popular bets and daily boosted odds. The page we read was the UK store listing, which showed 4.5 out of 5 from about 19,000 ratings; we could not load the Irish store page. The homepage also mentions an Android app, but we did not verify a Google Play listing.

User reviews on the store page are mixed. One praises the focused content, while others complain of slow navigation after logging in again and slow email responses and verification delays. App behaviour changes between versions, so treat these as a reason to try it with a small bet first, not as a verdict.

Signing up

  • Registration is done directly on 888sport.com or in the app, with standard identity and age verification (18+) before you can deposit or withdraw.
  • You will need to confirm you are a resident of the Republic of Ireland and provide the usual personal and payment details.
  • Complete identity verification early, before you place any large bet. Many of the complaints we read in customer feedback concern checks and restrictions after winning, and having your documents approved up front makes problems easier to spot.
  • Set deposit limits during registration and review your marketing preferences before you finish.

Our step-by-step guide to opening a betting account walks through each stage, including verification.

Payments

888sport.com’s homepage lists deposits by Visa, Mastercard, Apple Pay, Trustly, Luxon Pay and Paysafecard, with a stated minimum deposit shown in pounds, and withdrawals by Visa, PayPal, Apple Pay, Trustly, Luxon Pay and bank transfer. The page is written for UK customers and it accepts GBP, EUR and USD, so we cannot confirm that every method is offered, or at what limits, for a euro account in Ireland. A third-party review we saw lists a wider set of e-wallets with a €10 minimum and withdrawal times of two to six working days, but we could not confirm that against 888sport’s own pages, so we do not rely on it. Check the cashier on your own account before you register.

MethodDeposit / withdrawalWhat 888sport.com states

Apple PayBothListed for deposits and withdrawals
Trustly (Open Banking)BothListed for deposits and withdrawals
PayPalWithdrawalListed for withdrawals on the page we read
Luxon Pay, Paysafecard, bank transferMixedLuxon Pay for both; Paysafecard deposits only; bank transfer withdrawals only

Withdrawal speed and account verification are where customer feedback is most critical, as the Trustpilot section below shows. Minimum and maximum amounts and withdrawal times for Irish accounts are not stated on the pages we read, so we do not state them either.

The welcome offer

At the time of checking, the homepage headline read “100% match bonus up to €100” for new customers on registration and first deposit. We have not verified the full terms for Irish customers, including the wagering requirement, qualifying odds, expiry, any excluded payment methods and whether the bonus can be withdrawn before it is wagered, and we have no commercial relationship with 888sport. A match bonus is different from a free bet, because it usually comes with turnover conditions that you must meet before the funds become withdrawable. Read the terms in full on 888sport.com before you opt in, and see our free bets and wagering explainer for what each condition means. A bonus is not a reason to deposit more than you planned.

Safety and account controls

The 888sport homepage mentions deposit limits and self-exclusion tools through its responsible gambling section, and it states an 18+ age limit. The regulatory history above is a reminder to rely on your own controls: set deposit limits before you play, use time-outs when you need a break, and use self-exclusion if gambling stops being fun. The Irish support service GamblingCare.ie offers a free 24/7 helpline on 1800 936 725, and our responsible gambling page lists further support.

888sport compared with the other operators we review

888sportIrish Revenue licence 1010120; no own-stated GRAI reference found; sports betting only; the largest UK penalty history of the operators we review (£9.4m in 2022, smaller actions in 2024 and 2025); Trustpilot 1.1 out of 5
William HillSame corporate group; Irish Revenue licence through William Hill Malta PLC; group-wide UKGC fine in 2023 disclosed in its review
Paddy PowerIrish Revenue licence plus own-stated GRAI reference; two disclosed UKGC actions (2023 and 2025); very feature-rich app
bet365Irish licence through Hillside (Sports) ENC; sports betting only; deep in-play and streaming; long trading history
UnibetDirectly GRAI-licensed per its own terms, plus Irish Revenue entry; sports betting only; PayPal and card payments
Sky BetIrish Revenue licence through SBG Sports Ltd; sports betting only; payment details not publicly confirmed by Sky Bet
BoyleSportsIrish Revenue licence plus own-stated GRAI reference; strong GAA and greyhound coverage; wide e-wallet range
KwiffIrish Revenue licence; Supercharge odds boost; €10 minimum payments; Pay by Bank and Google Pay
QuinnBetIrish Revenue licence; Irish-founded brand; payment details not independently confirmed
MidniteIrish Revenue licence; mobile-first product; Apple Pay, Google Pay and Trustly

Against the other bookmakers on Punter Ireland, 888sport’s strengths are a focused product, a well-rated iOS app and a euro welcome offer headline. Its weaknesses are the length and seriousness of its UK regulatory history, the absence of a GRAI reference we could find, and a Trustpilot score far below the others we have reviewed, which is why it rates below most of them on trust and customer support. See all of our betting sites and our comparison for new customers.

Irish gambling regulation context

The Gambling Regulatory Authority of Ireland (GRAI) opened applications for remote betting licences on 9 February 2026, and remote betting licences started on 1 July 2026. 888 (Ireland) Limited is listed on the Irish Revenue Commissioners’ register of licensed remote bookmakers, and a notice of intent under a similar company name has been published with GRAI. We could not verify a GRAI licence number for 888sport at the time of writing. Gaming (casino) licences are separate and are expected to open through 2027 and 2028, which is why no operator on this site is presented as licensed for casino play by Irish customers.

Safety checklist before you sign up

  • Confirm the licence reference for the entity serving Irish customers: 888 (Ireland) Limited, reference 1010120 on the Irish Revenue register.
  • Check payment methods, limits and processing times at the cashier, since the homepage we read is written for UK customers.
  • Read the welcome offer terms in full before opting in, including the wagering requirement, qualifying odds, expiry and any excluded payment methods.
  • Complete identity verification before you place large bets or build up winnings, and keep copies of what you submit.
  • Set a deposit limit as part of registration, not after you have started playing, and know how to self-exclude before you need to.

Dispute routes

If you have an unresolved complaint with 888sport that is not settled through its own customer support, Irish customers of a licensed betting entity can raise regulatory concerns with the Gambling Regulatory Authority of Ireland. Keep records of everything you send and receive, including screenshots of account balances and any messages about restrictions or withdrawals. Our Responsible Gambling page lists current contact routes and support organisations.

Switching from another bookmaker

If you are moving to 888sport from another bookmaker, carry across the basics: set the same deposit limit you had before, do not treat a new offer as a reason to stake more than you planned, and check that its markets and app features cover the sports you bet on most. Given the customer feedback we saw about account restrictions, consider testing the full cycle of deposit, a small bet and a small withdrawal early on, before you commit more money. Registering a second account does not require closing the first, but each account needs its own limits.

In-play betting, Cash Out and streaming

In-play betting is a core part of the product, and the app listing describes live market updates, Cash Out and Watch & Bet streaming for UK and Irish racecourses. Cash Out lets you settle a bet before an event finishes at a price 888sport offers at that moment; it is not available on every market. Streaming rights and eligibility change by event and by account status, so check what is available on your own account before relying on it. Treat Cash Out as an option, not a safety net. Our bet types guide covers how it works.

Who 888sport in Ireland suits

888sport is likely to suit punters who want a focused, mobile-first sports product with Bet Builder and a well-rated iOS app, and who follow football, horse racing, golf or US sport. It is less likely to suit customers looking for casino games under the Irish licence, customers who place larger or frequently winning bets and want strong evidence of fair treatment, and anyone for whom the regulatory history and customer feedback above are deal-breakers. Those punters may prefer a bookmaker with a cleaner record in our reviews.

A note on 888sport’s corporate family

888sport is part of the group formerly known as 888 Holdings, which rebranded as evoke plc in 2024 and also owns William Hill. In Ireland, 888sport and William Hill hold separate Revenue licences, 1010120 and 1016824, through separate Maltese companies at the same business address. Do not assume a licence, product or offer available on one brand applies to another; check the entity named in the footer of the site you are using.

Customer support

We did not test live chat or email response times for this review, and we could not read 888sport’s help centre. Customer support is therefore rated on the evidence we have: app store users mention slow email responses and verification delays, and Trustpilot reviewers frequently describe support as hard to reach. A third-party review mentions 24-hour support, which we could not confirm. Once you are registered, check the help section of your account for current channels, and keep screenshots or saved chat transcripts of any conversation about a deposit, withdrawal or offer.

What to check before your first bet

Before your first bet, confirm a few practical details directly on 888sport.com or in the app: the live welcome offer and its terms, the payment methods and limits at the cashier for your account, and how the app handles the sports you follow. Start with a small stake while you learn the bet slip and Cash Out features, and read our beginner’s guide to placing a bet if you are new to betting.

Review methodology

This review is based on the Irish Revenue Commissioners’ register of licensed remote bookmakers (version dated 30 June 2026, checked 3 October 2026), the GRAI notice of intent for 888 Eire Limited, 888sport.com’s homepage, its App Store listing (UK page), the UK Gambling Commission’s public register and published decisions for account 39028, press coverage of the 2024 licence review, and Trustpilot. Where information could not be independently verified — such as a GRAI reference, the full welcome offer terms, euro payment limits and help centre content — we say so rather than repeat marketing claims. We hold no affiliate or commercial relationship with 888sport at the time of writing.

Frequently asked questions

Is 888sport licensed in Ireland?

Yes, for sports betting. 888 (Ireland) Limited holds Irish Remote Bookmaker’s Licence reference 1010120 on the Irish Revenue Commissioners’ register, with the trading name 888SPORT.COM. We could not find a GRAI registration number stated on 888sport’s own site, so we do not quote one.

Has 888sport been fined by a regulator?

The UK Gambling Commission fined 888 UK Limited £9.4 million in March 2022 for social responsibility and anti-money laundering failings, after an earlier £7.8 million penalty in 2017. It also published smaller penalties of £23,000 (August 2024), £33,075 (August 2025) and £86,843 (November 2025). These relate to the GB licence, not an Irish regulator. We found no published action by an Irish regulator.

Can I play casino games at 888sport in Ireland?

Not under the Irish sports betting licence. Ireland does not yet have gaming (casino) licences; GRAI is expected to open these through 2027 and 2028. Check which entity and licence covers any casino product before you play.

What payment methods does 888sport accept?

Its homepage lists Visa, Mastercard, Apple Pay, Trustly, Luxon Pay and Paysafecard for deposits, and Visa, PayPal, Apple Pay, Trustly, Luxon Pay and bank transfer for withdrawals. The page is written for UK customers, so confirm the options and limits for your Irish account at the cashier.

What is the 888sport welcome offer for Ireland?

The homepage showed a 100% match bonus up to €100 when we checked, but we could not verify the wagering terms or eligibility for Irish customers. Read the terms on 888sport.com before opting in.

What do customers say about 888sport?

Trustpilot showed a TrustScore of 1.1 out of 5 from 2,558 reviews on 3 October 2026, with most complaints about account restrictions and withdrawals. We cannot verify individual cases, but it is a clear warning sign. App store ratings are much better, which shows how different review sources can be.

What Trustpilot reviewers say

As of 3 October 2026, 888sport holds a TrustScore of 1.1 out of 5 on Trustpilot from 2,558 reviews. This is the brand’s global score, not filtered to Irish customers — Trustpilot does not let a business split ratings by reviewer country — and it covers the whole product range, including casino and slots products that fall outside an Irish betting licence, so many comments concern those. Trustpilot ratings for bookmakers also skew low generally: happy customers rarely leave a review, while people with an account or withdrawal problem often do, so treat this as a complaints signal alongside the rest of this review rather than a balanced popularity score. Nine of the ten most recent reviews we could read for 888sport were one star, mostly about account restrictions and withdrawal delays that we cannot verify case by case; the two below are the only positive review in that sample and one of the milder negative ones. Two recent reviews below, picked to show the range rather than only the worst or the best, and avoiding reviews that make specific allegations we cannot verify:

“Super easy to verify and withdraw don’t know what all the negative reviews are about”

— Andrew M, ★★★★ (4/5), early October 2026, via Trustpilot

“Customer service is non existent”

— Keith Woods, ★ (1/5), early October 2026, via Trustpilot

Final verdict

888sport is a focused, mobile-first sports betting brand with a confirmed Irish Revenue licence held through 888 (Ireland) Limited, a well-rated iOS app and a euro welcome offer headline. Against that, it carries the heaviest UK regulatory history of any bookmaker we have reviewed, including a £9.4 million penalty in 2022 and three smaller ones in 2024 and 2025, we could not find a GRAI reference, and its Trustpilot score of 1.1 out of 5 is a serious red flag about account restrictions and withdrawals even allowing for the way such sites attract complaints. Offer terms, euro payment limits and support quality are all unverified for Irish accounts. If you choose it, verify your identity early, start small, test a withdrawal, and set your own limits. If a clean record and reliable payouts matter most, compare it against the other bookmakers we review.
