Betway is a global online bookmaker with a large Irish customer base, and this Betway Ireland review covers what the Irish Revenue Commissioners’ register, Betway’s own Irish site and its app store listing actually show — licence status, regulatory history, markets, payments and safety — rather than repeating marketing claims. Punter Ireland has no affiliate or commercial relationship with Betway at the time of writing; nothing here implies a bonus, deal or partnership.

- Confirmed on the Irish Revenue Commissioners’ register of licensed remote bookmakers (reference 1010156), and Betway’s own footer separately states a GRAI sports betting reference
- A well-rated app: the App Store listing shows Bet Builder, cash out, live streaming and a weekly Free Bet Club, with a 4.7 out of 5 rating from more than 2,600 ratings
- A clear welcome offer headline on the Irish homepage (€10 bet, €40 in free bets) that matches the app store listing
- A long operating history, with a UK Gambling Commission licence for the same company active since 2014
- The same company that holds the Irish licence has two published UK Gambling Commission actions: an £11.6 million settlement in 2020 and a £408,915 penalty in 2022, both disclosed below
- Trustpilot scores for Betway are very low (1.2 out of 5 from 18,631 reviews on the main profile), with withdrawal delays and account restrictions the most common complaints
- The only payment method we could confirm from Betway’s own site is debit cards, and euro limits and processing times for an Irish account are not independently confirmed
- The sports shown on the homepage are narrower than some rivals: no GAA or greyhound markets were visible when we checked
Betway Ireland licensing: what the licence actually covers
Betway in Ireland is operated by Betway Limited, a company registered in Malta (company number C39710 according to Betway’s own footer) with an address at 9 Empire Stadium Street, Gzira. The Irish Revenue Commissioners’ register of licensed remote bookmakers, which we read directly (the version we checked is dated 30 June 2026, and we checked it on 3 October 2026), lists licence reference 1010156 for Betway Limited under the trading name “Betway”. The register does not publish licence start or end dates.
Betway’s own Irish site footer goes a step further. It says Betway Limited is licensed and regulated for sports betting by the Gambling Regulatory Authority of Ireland under registration number GRAI-0524-RB-26-0001, issued on 1 July 2026. We could not cross-check that GRAI number against a public GRAI register at the time of writing, so we report both references — the independently verified Revenue register entry and the operator’s own stated GRAI number — rather than treating either alone as the full picture.
This is a sports betting licence. The same footer says Betway is regulated for games of chance by the Malta Gaming Authority under licence MGA/CRP/130/2006, issued on 1 August 2018, but that is a Maltese licence, not an Irish one. Ireland does not yet have gaming (casino) licences — GRAI is expected to open gaming licence applications through 2027 and 2028 — and we could not confirm from Betway’s pages which casino products, if any, are offered to Irish accounts. Treat any casino access as not confirmed under the Irish licence.
Regulatory history you should know about
The UK Gambling Commission’s public register lists Betway Limited under account number 39372, with remote casino and general betting (real event) licences active since 1 November 2014 and a virtual event betting licence active since 9 June 2017. Two published Commission outcomes concern this same company. We include them because the same legal entity holds the Irish licence, because they go to how a bookmaker treats customers, and because we disclose adverse history on every review rather than omit it. One caveat on sources: when we read the register’s regulatory actions list for account 39372 it showed no recorded actions, so we rely on the Commission’s own published decision pages and its freedom of information material for the two items below rather than on the register summary.
- September 2022: a financial penalty of £408,915 after Betway’s logo and website links appeared on children’s pages of West Ham United Football Club’s website, namely a colouring activity page (14 April 2020 to 6 November 2021) and a “Young Hammers at Home” page (24 October 2021 to 15 November 2021). The Commission found a breach of Social Responsibility Code provision 5.1.6 on compliance with advertising codes. It said it takes breaches of rules aimed at protecting children extremely seriously, and it noted Betway cooperated and took remedial action.
- March 2020: a settlement of £11.6 million, the largest the Commission had agreed at that point, paid in lieu of a financial penalty. Trade reporting at the time describes anti-money-laundering and social responsibility failings linked to VIP customers between 2014 and 2018, including weak ongoing monitoring, gaps in source-of-funds checks and customer interactions that were not carried out when required. The money was split between harm reduction initiatives and refunds to affected customers, and Betway committed to independent reviews and a compliance roadmap.
Both outcomes relate to Betway’s Great Britain licence and are not findings by an Irish regulator, and both are some years old. They do not by themselves mean an Irish customer will have a poor experience. They do show a company that has been found short on safer gambling and marketing controls in the past, so set your limits yourself and do not rely on the operator to spot problems for you. We found no published action by an Irish regulator at the time of writing.
Sports and betting markets
Betway’s Irish homepage listed football, eSports, cricket, horse racing, tennis and golf when we checked. The App Store listing describes live betting across more than 30 sports, including basketball and Formula 1, and says live streaming covers thousands of events worldwide. We did not see GAA or greyhound racing among the sports shown, which matters if those are your main interest, so check coverage for your own sports before you register. Streaming rights and market depth change by event and by account, and we did not test odds, so this review makes no claim about how Betway’s prices compare. For big festival weeks, see our guides to Cheltenham and the Grand National.
Betway is also strong in eSports and cricket relative to many Irish-focused bookmakers, which reflects its international business. That breadth is a point in its favour if you follow those sports, but it also means the brand is less rooted in Irish racing and field sports than a domestic bookmaker.
The Betway app
The Betway Sports Betting – Live app is listed on the App Store, and the listing we read showed an age rating of 18+, a price of free, and availability in Ireland. The seller is named as Digital Outsource International Limited. The description lists Bet Builder for custom bets, full and partial cash out, enhanced odds called Betway Boosts, and a Free Bet Club with weekly bonuses. The listing showed a 4.7 out of 5 average from more than 2,600 ratings, which is a strong score, but app store ratings come from a self-selected group of users and do not tell you how withdrawals or support work. We did not check the Google Play listing or test the app, so confirm the current version and device requirements in your own app store before installing.
Signing up
- Registration is done directly on betway.ie or in the app, with standard identity and age verification (18+) required before you can deposit or withdraw.
- You will need to confirm you are a resident of the Republic of Ireland and provide the usual personal and payment details.
- Expect document checks early. Many Trustpilot complaints about Betway concern verification and withdrawal delays, so upload your photo ID and proof of address promptly rather than waiting until you want to withdraw.
- Set deposit limits during registration and review your marketing preferences before you finish.
Our step-by-step guide to opening a betting account walks through each stage, including verification.
Payments
Betway’s Irish homepage refers to debit cards in its welcome offer wording, and that is the only payment method we could confirm from Betway’s own site. Its help pages were not accessible to us, so we cannot give you euro minimums, maximums or processing times for an Irish account. A UK-focused third-party banking guide lists Visa, PayPal, Neteller, Skrill and Trustly deposits, with e-wallet withdrawals in roughly 2 to 24 hours, debit card withdrawals in 1 to 2 business days and a same-day Visa option in under 12 hours. That guide is written for GB customers and does not address Ireland, so we present it as context only and not as a statement of what is available to you.
| Method | Confirmed for Irish accounts? | What we can say |
|---|---|---|
| Debit cards | Yes, referenced on Betway’s own Irish site | Used for the welcome offer qualifying deposit; limits and withdrawal times not confirmed |
| PayPal, Neteller, Skrill | Not confirmed | Listed by a UK-focused third-party guide; check the cashier for your account |
| Trustly / bank transfer | Not confirmed | Listed by the same guide, which also says bank transfers cannot be used to withdraw; unverified for Ireland |
| Euro minimums and processing times | Not confirmed | Not published on pages we could read; confirm at the cashier before depositing |
Whatever method you use, expect withdrawals to a method in your own name after identity verification, and read the cashier’s stated times before you deposit rather than after.
The welcome offer
At the time of checking, Betway’s Irish homepage headline read “Bet €10 Get €40 in Free Bets”, and the App Store listing described a £/€10 bet for £/€40 in free bets for new UK and Republic of Ireland customers. We have not verified the full terms, including qualifying odds, expiry, how the free bets are credited and any excluded payment methods, and we have no commercial relationship with Betway. Several recent Trustpilot reviews complain that the free bets were not received after the qualifying bet, which is a reason to read the terms in full and to check your account after you qualify. See our free bets and wagering explainer for what each condition means. A free bet is a promotional credit, not a reason to bet more than you planned.
Safety and account controls
Betway’s footer links to its responsible gaming page and references GamblingCare.ie. We could not read the responsible gaming page itself, so we cannot list the exact tools on offer, but you should expect deposit limits, time-outs and self-exclusion from a regulated operator, and you should set them yourself. The regulatory history above is a reminder to rely on your own controls: set deposit limits before you play, use time-outs when you need a break, and use self-exclusion if gambling stops being fun. The Irish support service GamblingCare.ie offers a free 24/7 helpline on 1800 936 725, and our responsible gambling page lists further support.
Betway compared with the other operators we review
Against the other bookmakers on Punter Ireland, Betway’s strengths are a polished app, a clear welcome offer and strong eSports and cricket coverage. Its regulatory history and the volume of complaints about withdrawals and support are the main cautions, and they hold its trust and customer support scores below the middle of the field. See all of our betting sites and our comparison for new customers.
What Betway customers complain about
Betway’s Trustpilot profile is dominated by one-star reviews, and the recurring themes are consistent: withdrawals described as slow or not processed, accounts restricted or closed after a deposit or a win, free bets not credited, and live chat that does not resolve problems. Trustpilot reviews are unverified and cover the whole product range, including casino products that sit outside an Irish betting licence, and unhappy customers are far more likely to post than happy ones. Even so, the pattern is strong enough to treat as a real warning. Practical steps: complete verification before you need to withdraw, keep screenshots of the offer terms you signed up under, deposit only what you are comfortable having delayed, and escalate any unresolved complaint in writing.
Irish gambling regulation context
The Gambling Regulatory Authority of Ireland (GRAI) opened applications for remote betting licences on 9 February 2026, and remote betting licences started on 1 July 2026. Betway Limited is listed on the Irish Revenue Commissioners’ register of licensed remote bookmakers, and Betway’s own footer states a GRAI reference for the same company. Gaming (casino) licences are separate and are expected to open through 2027 and 2028, which is why no operator on this site is presented as licensed for casino play by Irish customers, whatever Maltese or UK licences the same group may hold.
Safety checklist before you sign up
- Confirm the licence reference for the entity serving Irish customers: Betway Limited, reference 1010156 on the Irish Revenue register.
- Check payment methods, euro limits and processing times at the cashier, since we could not confirm them for an Irish account.
- Read the welcome offer terms in full before opting in, including qualifying odds, expiry and any excluded payment methods, and check that the free bets arrive.
- Upload your identity documents early so verification does not delay your first withdrawal.
- Set a deposit limit as part of registration, not after you have started playing, and know how to self-exclude before you need to.
Dispute routes
If you have an unresolved complaint with Betway that is not settled through its own customer support, Irish customers of a licensed betting entity can raise regulatory concerns with the Gambling Regulatory Authority of Ireland. Complain in writing first, keep records of what you send and receive, and give Betway a reasonable chance to respond. Our Responsible Gambling page lists current contact routes and support organisations.
Switching from another bookmaker
If you are moving to Betway from another bookmaker, carry across the basics: set the same deposit limit you had before, do not treat a new offer as a reason to stake more than you planned, and check that its markets cover the sports you bet on most, particularly if you follow GAA or greyhounds. Registering a second account does not require closing the first, but each account needs its own limits.
In-play betting and cash out
The App Store listing describes live betting, live streaming on eligible events and both full and partial cash out. Cash out lets you settle a bet before an event finishes at a price Betway offers at that moment; it is not available on every market and it is not a safety net. We did not test it. Our bet types guide covers how it works, and our beginner’s guide to placing a bet is a good start if you are new.
Who Betway in Ireland suits
Betway is likely to suit punters who want a polished app with Bet Builder and streaming, who follow eSports, cricket, tennis or football, and who are comfortable reading offer terms closely. It is less likely to suit customers looking for casino games under an Irish licence, anyone focused on GAA or greyhound racing, and anyone for whom the regulatory history and complaint pattern above are a deal-breaker.
A note on Betway’s corporate family
Betway is a brand of the Super Group (SGHC) family, according to public company information, and its licensing is split across several jurisdictions. Do not assume a licence or product available on one Betway site applies to another; check the entity named in the footer of the site you are using. Betway Limited is the licensee named on the Irish Revenue register, the UK Gambling Commission register and the Maltese licence stated in the footer.
Customer support
We did not test Betway’s live chat or email response times for this review, and its help pages were not accessible to us. Trustpilot reviewers frequently describe live chat as unhelpful, so we score customer support low on that evidence, while recognising it is a one-sided source. Once you are registered, check the help section of your account for current channels, and keep screenshots or saved chat transcripts of any conversation about a deposit, withdrawal or offer.
What to check before your first bet
Before your first bet, confirm a few practical details directly on betway.ie or in the app: the live welcome offer and its terms, the payment methods and limits at the cashier for your account, and how the app handles the sports you follow. Start with a small stake while you learn the bet slip and cash out features, and verify your account before you need to withdraw.
Review methodology
This review is based on the Irish Revenue Commissioners’ register of licensed remote bookmakers (version dated 30 June 2026, checked 3 October 2026), Betway’s own Irish homepage and footer, its App Store listing, the UK Gambling Commission’s public register and published decision pages for Betway Limited (account 39372), trade and legal reporting on the 2020 settlement and 2022 penalty, and Trustpilot. Betway’s help pages could not be read, so we say so rather than fill the gaps. Where information could not be independently verified — such as the own-stated GRAI reference, the full welcome offer terms, and euro payment limits — we say so rather than repeat marketing claims. We hold no affiliate or commercial relationship with Betway at the time of writing.
Frequently asked questions
Is Betway licensed in Ireland?
Yes, for sports betting. Betway Limited holds Irish Remote Bookmaker’s Licence reference 1010156 on the Irish Revenue Commissioners’ register (version dated 30 June 2026). Betway’s own footer also states a GRAI reference, GRAI-0524-RB-26-0001, which we could not cross-check against a public GRAI register.
Has Betway been fined by a regulator?
The UK Gambling Commission agreed an £11.6 million settlement with Betway Limited in March 2020 over anti-money-laundering and social responsibility failings, and published a £408,915 penalty in September 2022 over marketing on children’s pages of a football club website. Both relate to the GB licence. We found no published action by an Irish regulator at the time of writing.
Can I play casino games at Betway in Ireland?
Not under the Irish sports betting licence. Betway’s footer cites a Malta Gaming Authority licence for games of chance, but Ireland does not yet have gaming (casino) licences; GRAI is expected to open these through 2027 and 2028. We could not confirm which casino products are offered to Irish accounts.
What payment methods does Betway accept in Ireland?
Betway’s Irish site refers to debit cards. We could not confirm other methods, euro limits or processing times, so check the cashier for your account before you deposit.
Is there a Betway welcome offer for Ireland?
The Irish homepage showed “Bet €10 Get €40 in Free Bets” when we checked, but we could not verify the full terms. Read them on betway.ie before opting in.
Does Betway have a mobile app?
Yes. Betway Sports Betting – Live is listed on the App Store with an 18+ rating and is free. We did not check Google Play. Confirm the current version and requirements in your app store before installing.

What Trustpilot reviewers say
As of 3 October 2026, Betway holds a TrustScore of 1.2 out of 5 on Trustpilot from 18,631 reviews. This is the brand’s global score, not filtered to Irish customers — Trustpilot does not let a business split ratings by reviewer country — and it covers the whole product range, including casino and slots products that fall outside an Irish betting licence, so many comments concern those. Trustpilot ratings for bookmakers also skew low generally: happy customers rarely leave a review, while people with an account or withdrawal problem often do, so treat this as a complaints signal alongside the rest of this review rather than a balanced popularity score. The main betway.com profile page we could read showed only one-star reviews among the most recent ones, so the positive quote below comes from Betway’s separate, much smaller Trustpilot profile for its sports site (1.6 out of 5 from 22 reviews); the negative quote is from the main profile. Two recent reviews below, picked to show the range rather than only the worst or the best, and avoiding reviews that make specific allegations we cannot verify:
“Excellent betting company. Have the best odds, and the app and their desktop site is so easy to use”
— Daniel, ★★★★★ (5/5), early October 2026, via Trustpilot
“Waiting on a withdrawal that hasn’t even been processed after 4 days. Live chat is useless.”
— Amy, ★ (1/5), early October 2026, via Trustpilot

Final verdict
Betway is a polished, widely used bookmaker with a confirmed Irish Revenue licence held through Betway Limited, a well-rated app and a clear welcome offer headline. Against that, the same company has two published UK Gambling Commission outcomes, in 2020 and 2022, covering anti-money-laundering, safer gambling and marketing controls, and its Trustpilot profile is dominated by complaints about withdrawals, account restrictions and support. We could not confirm euro payment terms or the full offer terms for Irish customers. If you want its app and eSports or cricket coverage, it can be a reasonable choice once you have verified your account early, read the offer terms and set your own limits. If a clean regulatory record or reliable support matters most, compare it against the other bookmakers we review.
