Relegation, a supporters’ co-op and the Kenny years

Dundalk were relegated for the first time in 1998–99, were taken over by a supporters’ co-op in 2000 and won the 2002 FAI Cup. Under Stephen Kenny and Vinny Perth they won five league titles between 2014 and 2019, with several doubles.

Relegation and recovery

The club was relegated in 2024, faced insolvency concerns, and won the First Division title in 2025 to return to the Premier Division.

Rivalries and supporters

The Louth derby with Drogheda United is the local rivalry, and Shamrock Rovers are named as the main rivals because of their record league and FAI Cup totals. The 1903 is the main supporters club, the Lilywhite Ladies is the ladies supporters club, and the Shedside Army is the ultra group behind the tifo displays.

Betting on Dundalk

Dundalk are back in the top flight, so price comparisons against the established clubs matter. Say a bookmaker offers 2.60 on a Dundalk home win, 3.30 on the draw and 2.70 on the away win. Those prices imply chances of 38.5%, 30.3% and 37.0%, which total 105.8%, so the margin is 5.8%. A €10 bet on the draw at 3.30 returns €33.00, a €23.00 profit. The prices are illustrative, not a quote. Our guide to how betting odds work walks through the sums.

Before you bet on a Dundalk match, check for team news, because line-ups are announced about an hour before kick-off and prices often move. Our bet types guide explains markets such as draw no bet and both teams to score, and the free bets guide explains why offers rarely pay what the headline suggests.
