Crystal Palace history

From the Crystal Palace grounds

The club was founded on 10 September 1905, with origins going back to 1861. It won the Third Division in 1920–21, its first league season.

The 1970s and 1980s

Malcolm Allison became manager in 1973 and the club switched to red and blue stripes. Palace were relegated in 1974 and 1981, and Ron Noades took control in 1981.

Best finish

In 1990–91 Palace finished third in the First Division, their highest league finish. They were relegated from the Premier League in 1995 and 1998 and went into administration in 1999 and 2010.

American investment and trophies

Josh Harris and David Blitzer bought stakes in 2015, and Woody Johnson completed his purchase of John Textor’s stake on 24 July 2025. Palace won the FA Cup in 2025, beating Manchester City 1–0, and UEFA moved them from the Europa League to the Conference League over multi-club ownership rules.

How many titles have Crystal Palace won?

Palace have won the FA Cup once, in 2025, and the Conference League once, in 2025–26. They have not won the top-flight title.

Best league finish, 1990–91

Palace lost FA Cup finals in 1990 and 2016, and won the Full Members’ Cup in 1990–91. The Conference League final was a 1–0 win over Rayo Vallecano in Leipzig on 27 May 2026.

Have Crystal Palace won a European trophy?

Yes. Palace won the Conference League in 2025–26, beating Rayo Vallecano 1–0 in the final.

Their 2025 FA Cup win had earned a Europa League place, but UEFA moved the club to the Conference League over multi-club ownership rules.

Rivalries and supporters

Brighton are the main rivals, dating from the 1970s, and Millwall and Charlton are South London derbies.

Betting on Crystal Palace

A new manager can make early prices unreliable, so compare carefully. Say a bookmaker offers 2.70 on a Palace home win, 3.30 on the draw and 2.75 on the away win. Those prices imply chances of 37.0%, 30.3% and 36.4%, which total 103.7%, so the margin is 3.7%. A €10 bet on the draw at 3.30 returns €33.00, a €23.00 profit. The prices are illustrative, not a quote. Our guide to how betting odds work walks through the sums.

Before you bet on a Crystal Palace match, check for team news, because line-ups are announced about an hour before kick-off and prices often move. Our bet types guide explains markets such as draw no bet and both teams to score, and the free bets guide explains why offers rarely pay what the headline suggests.

Our AI predictions track record logs every pick we make, hit or miss, and our Premier League predictions and odds guide explains how to use predictions without treating them as certainties.
