Where do Shamrock Rovers play?

Shamrock Rovers play at Tallaght Stadium in south Dublin, which holds about 10,500 people. The club has played there since 2009.

The sod was turned in 2000, but building stalled and only resumed in 2008, so the move home took years longer than planned. All four stands were completed by 2024, when the club recorded its first sell-out at the enlarged capacity of more than 10,000. The record crowd is 10,900, for a 2009 friendly against Real Madrid. In 2023 the club had the highest average attendance in the league, at 6,109.

Match tickets

Match tickets, matchday packages, group tickets and the mobile ticketing app are all handled by the club. Buy only through the official match tickets page so you are not caught out by resale scams.

2027 season tickets

The club’s site showed on 27 October 2026 that member renewals for 2027 opened that day, season ticket holder renewals open on 2 November and general sale begins on 9 November. Details are on the official season tickets page. Dates and prices can change, so confirm them there.

Shamrock Rovers history

Ringsend beginnings

Rovers began life in Ringsend, Dublin, and took their name from Shamrock Avenue, where the first club rooms were secured. The founding year is disputed. An April 1899 match report in the Evening Herald is the earliest record, which is why many sources give 1899, but the club registered with the Leinster FA in 1901 and has also used that date. We use 1899 with the 1901 registration alongside it.

Glenmalure Park and the early titles

The green and white hoops date from 1926, the year the club moved into Glenmalure Park, which was home for more than 60 years. Rovers won the first of their league titles in 1922–23 and were among the league’s strongest sides in the 1920s and 1930s, a period remembered for the “Four Fs” forward line of Bob Fullam, John Joe Flood, John Fagan and Billy Farrell. In the 1960s they won the FAI Cup six years running, and between 1984 and 1987 they took four league titles in a row.

Exile and the fight to come home

The club sold Glenmalure Park in 1987 and it was demolished in 1990. Supporters organised a boycott, led by the Keep Rovers at Milltown campaign (KRAM), and for 1987–88 the team played in a near-empty Tolka Park. Two seasons at Dalymount Park followed, then a six-year spell at the RDS Arena and a string of other grounds. After the supporters took over the running of the club, black was adopted as a third official colour in recognition of the loss of Glenmalure Park.

Examinership and the road to Tallaght

In April 2005 Rovers entered examinership. A bid led by the supporters’ 400 Club was accepted in July 2005, which kept the club alive. Tallaght Stadium opened for football in 2009, and the first league titles in the new home came in 2010 and 2011, 16 years after the club’s previous championship in 1994.

The Bradley era

Under Stephen Bradley the club won four titles in a row from 2020 to 2023, then another in 2025, finishing second in 2024 behind Shelbourne. The 2025 season ended in a league and cup double, with a 2–0 FAI Cup final win over Cork City. Rovers also beat Dundalk on penalties in the 2019 final and lost the 2020 final to the same opponents behind closed doors.

How many titles have Shamrock Rovers won?

Shamrock Rovers have won 22 League of Ireland titles and 26 FAI Cups, and both totals are records. The latest league title came in 2025.

League titles include 1922–23, 1954, four in a row from 1984 to 1987, 1994, 2010, 2011, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2025. Published honours lists for the club contain repeated entries, so we have only named years that appear in the text of the sources we cite. The 2026 title race is covered on our League of Ireland table page.

Have Shamrock Rovers played in Europe?

Yes. Rovers were the first Irish club to compete in European football, entering the European Cup in 1957–58. In 2011 they became the first Irish club to reach a European group stage, in the Europa League, after beating Partizan in the play-off round. They reached the Conference League group stage in 2022–23, and in 2024–25 they went one stage further, reaching a knockout play-off where they lost to Molde on penalties.

Famous Shamrock Rovers players and managers

Among the club’s best-known names are the Four Fs of the 1920s, Paddy Moore, Jimmy Dunne, Liam Tuohy, Johnny Fullam, Mick Leech and Ray Treacy. The club held a presentation for Leech in October 2026. The academy has produced Gavin Bazunu, who moved to Manchester City, and Kevin Zefi, who joined Inter Milan. Johnny Giles, Jim McLaughlin, Michael O’Neill and Stephen Bradley are among the managers who have shaped the club.

Rivalries and supporters

The “classic” fixture is against Bohemians, a rivalry that has defined Dublin football since the 1970s. St Patrick’s Athletic are the local derby, and Shelbourne are the oldest opponents, going back to the two clubs’ shared Ringsend roots. In the 1950s and 1960s the big rival was Drumcondra. Rovers have a strong supporter culture, from the Members Club that holds a major stake in the club to the SRFC Ultras group and the KRAM veterans of the 1980s boycott. See how the derbies played out in our Shamrock Rovers vs Bohemians match report.

Betting on Shamrock Rovers

Title-winning sides are often priced short, which affects how a bet pays. Say a bookmaker offers 1.60 on Rovers to win at home, 4.00 on the draw and 5.50 on the visitors. Those prices imply chances of 62.5%, 25.0% and 18.2%, which add up to 105.7%, so the bookmaker’s margin is 5.7%. A €10 bet at 1.60 returns €16, a profit of €6. These prices are illustrative, not a real quote. Our guide to how betting odds work explains the sums.

Short prices tempt punters into accumulators. Four selections at 1.60 combine to odds of 6.55, so €10 returns €65.54, but a single loss ends the bet. Try the numbers in our bet calculator and read about bet types before you place one. For the Premier Division in particular, check the table before you bet: clubs with nothing left to play for may rotate their side.
