Trixie Calculator: Returns on a 4-Bet Trixie

Home » Trixie Calculator: Returns on a 4-Bet Trixie

This Trixie calculator works out your returns on a Trixie before you place it. Enter the odds for three selections, set each as a winner or a loser and see the total stake, return and profit. You can switch to a Patent to compare the two.

Quick answer
  • A Trixie is 4 bets on 3 selections: 3 doubles and 1 treble. There are no singles.
  • The stake is per bet. A €5 Trixie costs €20, and an each-way Trixie has 8 bets.
  • You need at least two winners to get anything back.

Pick Trixie in the menu, enter your three prices and set the results to see what the slip pays.

What is a Trixie bet?

A Trixie is a full-cover bet on three selections in different events. It places four bets: three doubles, one for each pair of selections, and a treble on all three. There are no single bets, so you need at least two winners to be paid.

Worked example: a €5 Trixie

Three selections at 2/1 (3.0), 3/1 (4.0) and evens (2.0), with €5 on each of the four bets, so a total stake of €20.

If all three win, the three doubles pay 12 + 6 + 8 = 26 in decimal terms and the treble pays 24, a total of 50. Multiplied by €5, the return is €250, a profit of €230.

ResultReturnProfit or loss
All three win€250+€230
2/1 and 3/1 win, evens loses€60+€40
3/1 and evens win, 2/1 loses€40+€20
2/1 and evens win, 3/1 loses€30+€10
Only one wins€0-€20

Two winners paid a profit here because the odds were fairly long. With shorter prices, two winners can return less than the €20 stake.

How many winners do you need in a Trixie?

At least two. The smallest bets in a Trixie are the doubles, so one winner returns nothing. Two winners pay one double, and three winners pay all three doubles and the treble. Whether two winners cover the stake depends on the prices.

Trixie or Patent?

A Patent covers the same three selections with seven bets: the three singles, three doubles and the treble. It pays when only one selection wins, but costs seven units instead of four. If you want that cover, use our Patent calculator. For a bigger bet, a Yankee calculator covers four selections.

Each-way Trixie

An each-way Trixie has eight bets, four for the win and four for the place, so the stake is double. This suits racing, where place terms matter. Our each way calculator and each-way guide cover how place bets pay.

Where Trixies are used

Trixies are popular on a day of racing or a set of football games. See the horse racing betting guide, the Punchestown Festival guide and the football betting guide. Our bet types guide compares it with other bets, and the bet calculator handles larger bets.

What this calculator leaves out

This calculator is a guide only. It does not apply Rule 4 deductions, dead heats, bonuses, boosts, early-payout offers or bet builders, and bookmakers can round or settle slightly differently. Check your slip and the bookmaker’s terms before you rely on a figure. Our bet calculator has a section on Rule 4 and dead heats.
