Clubs are ranked by points. In the 2026 table, clubs level on points have been separated by goal difference first, so a club that has scored more and conceded less sits higher. The league’s own rules set out any further tie-breaks.

How do you read the League of Ireland table?

Each row shows the games played (P), wins (W), draws (D), defeats (L), goal difference (GD) and points (Pts). A win is worth three points and a draw one. The form column shows the club’s last five results, with the most recent on the right: green for a win, grey for a draw and red for a defeat.

Remember that the table only tells you where clubs stand. It does not tell you what is likely to happen next. A club on a long winning run can still lose to a side that has nothing to play for, and late-season games can be shaped by fixtures that have been moved. Check the fixtures on each club’s page before you draw conclusions.

What does each League of Ireland position mean?

The top three clubs qualify for European qualifiers, the club in ninth enters a promotion/relegation play-off and the club in tenth is relegated. The full breakdown is below.

  • 1st, champions: the Champions League first qualifying round.
  • 2nd: the Conference League second qualifying round.
  • 3rd: the Conference League first qualifying round.
  • 4th to 8th: no automatic European or play-off consequence. In some seasons a place can pass down the table if the FAI Cup winners have already qualified through the league, so check the league’s announcements.
  • 9th: a promotion/relegation play-off.
  • 10th: relegated to the First Division.

The colours in the table follow these places. European places are the biggest prize outside the title, because they bring prize money and a platform for players to be noticed. At the other end, relegation battles are among the most dramatic parts of the season, because the gap between the Premier Division and the First Division is large.

League of Ireland First Division table

The First Division is the second tier, also with ten clubs and 36 rounds. Its champions are promoted to the Premier Division, as Dundalk were for 2026. The standings below update automatically.

Using the League of Ireland table when you bet

The table is a useful starting point, but it is not a prediction. Look at goal difference and the form column rather than just points. A club that has won three of its last five with a positive goal difference is in better shape than one that sits in the same place on the back of a poor run. Look also at what is at stake. A club chasing a European place or avoiding relegation will often play with more urgency than one that is mid-table, and in the final rounds rotation is common.

Bookmaker prices already reflect the table, plus a margin. Add up the implied chances of all outcomes and you will find they total more than 100%, with the excess being the margin. Our guide to how betting odds work explains the sums, and our bet types guide covers markets such as double chance and draw no bet. Use the odds converter to compare fractional and decimal prices.

Our League of Ireland coverage includes Derry City vs St Patrick’s Athletic, Waterford vs Galway United and Dundalk vs Bohemians. Our AI predictions track record logs every pick we publish, win or lose.
